There Is Hope c2013
by Evelyn Dove Coleman
PathChoice provides a book called "Steps to Student Success" detailing how I helped a former Ford Fellowship recipient rescue her scholarship when she was failing. She followed the steps outlined in the book and brought her grades up to A's.
PathChoice is listed in the front of the phone book under Crisis Counseling and Youth Services. We are a United Way 2-1-1 referral resource also.
One night, a young caller had lost all hope and did not want to have to face another tomorrow. I stayed on the line with him until he calmed down, his tears ended, he began to have hope again, we mapped out a strategy of steps to success for him to take, and we prayed.
A couple had come to the end of the journey in their minds, after nearly 30 years of marriage. The luster was lost. I asked the husband if he woke up the next day and his wife had passed in her sleep, how would he feel. He began to weep. She was sitting right beside him, about to get a divorce. But the thought of losing her evoked his deep feelings for his wife and best friend. We set up a weekly date for them to have an inexpensive breakfast, just to date each other again. They cancelled the divorce.
A woman was depressed because she could not find work. I picked up the phone and asked a family friend to do me a favor. Give her a six month trial, and he did. She still has that job and is working on establishing a monthly budget to live within her paycheck minus tithes. We gave her a worksheet for that.
An elder sent me an email that my Pastor's Appreciation message was the best service their church has ever had. That made me smile, and I gave God the glory for being in the midst with us that day. I simply go as a willing vessel to open my mouth and obey, dying completely to self and doing the Master's will.
These are some of the services that PathChoice Pastoral Counseling is called to provide to the greater community. We help all ages, races, genders, and denominations. We were established in 1992 and later incorporated. The Kinston Chamber of Commerce named PathChoice its 2013 Minority Business of the Year just before our summer "Writing Camp."
We pray daily over our prayer box and hold Healing Prayer weekly. It is all about God being glorified when he answers prayers.
